Firefly's

24th November, 2009. 10:15 pm.

I put a bid on a condo today, same one as last time. The other buyer's financing fell through and I was next in line.

Quite possibly coolest birthday present ever. :)

Current mood: excited.

9th November, 2009. 7:34 pm.

wow, things have been busy. I mean, when people ask what I've been up to lately I dont think I have anything to say until I start going and then whoa!

Our co-ed softball wrapped up our season a couple weeks ago, we lost in the play-offs although we had been almost undefeated the whole season. I think we had lost one game only. I did manage to hit the ball once, which was awesome. Better luck next time, especially since Jerry has been taking me to the batting cages every week.

Ok, Erinn's wedding was beautiful and lovely and she was so zen and lovely looking. It was a fabulous weekend with Cara, Kate, Roxy and Jordan all staying over with Jerry and I during saturday and sunday. It was a blast seeing everyone again.

Jerry had his 30th birthday the day before, and I threw him a surprise party in the guise of a "poker night" and it was a huge success. He had no idea and I had all his favorite foods all cooked up and laid out for him. We had loads of people come and wish him luck in his new decade.

I've reconnected with a friend from high school and college, which has been fabulous. He's such a cool guy and I had really missed hanging out with him and just chatting about all kinds of things. We've been meeting up for dinners and lunches the past couple months and its been so much fun. with the ski season starting, we are making plans for ski trips to various areas this year.

This last weekend, I had my first ski weekend up at the area. It was nice, the snow wasnt too bad considering how early it is in the season. A little mushy and icy but not bad. This next week I'm down at the baby hill, but its better to get all those days out of the way. Plus, I was planning on going up saturday and sunday so its better to have a down day for the second. It means I'll have over half my days in for the quarter already. Then I dont have to worry about skiing during the holidays. hurrah!

Sunday I went and had brunch with Hoover who was in town for the weekend visiitng his sister in the springs. It was good to see him, we spent all this time just laughing about these crazy inside jokes and just giving eachother these stupid looks. His nephew is a cutey cute and I played with him bunches. Ah good times.

This week veterens day is on a wednesday so I have a random day off in the middle of the week. I was thinking of being productive but I just dont know. I might just end up spending the whole day lounging on the couch instead and thinking of being productive. Although I am hoping to kick start my christmas shopping so we shall see.

Current mood: creative.

29th October, 2009. 4:12 pm. snow day!

But not really because I had to work. Well, I chose to go in. I didnt see the point in claiming I couldnt make it in when I walk the whole way. Which was fine, I got some things done, and the day went by pretty quickly which I hadnt expected. whew! There wasnt that many people in, so I we all sat around and chatted for most the morning and then I got some busy work done since the attorney I work with is out of town so I wasnt able to file anything with the courts. About 10am or so, more people showed up so it was starting to look more like a normal day but I was the only one in my department who came in.
and now, off to Candice's for game night and picking up the left-overs from Jerry's surprise party last week. Such a good time, and amazing food. yay!
I'm writing about it later, once I settle down abit.

12th October, 2009. 2:31 pm. Happy Columbus day!

Ah, sleeping in during cold weather is quite possibly one of the beautiful things of fall. Curled up under the covers, peer out the window that shows gray gloom and then turning over and going back to sleep. Or, grabbing a book and a cup of hot tea or cocoa and curling up on the couch under blankets and hoodies.
Also, my bake-athon is in full force today. I've already finished one full batch and the second is chilling in the fridge and then that will be going in the oven. The chocolate truffles are waiting until next week I think, Candice, Clay and I are going to have a cooking session and get most of the prep work done for the party in a couple weeks. The truffles are such a handful that I think it would be easier to do it with a larger kitchen than my tiny apartment kitchen and with a bigger bowl/beater. But the peanut butter and choc. chip are done (except the chilling) and since Jerry isnt home today I can get them done and then hide them away. hurrah! The truffles smell up the entire apartment/floor/building so its also harder to hide I was baking them at home also.

I was also reminded of the chicken/cheese/bacon wraps I brought to a couple parties last year, that I might bring back for this party. I could do the prep for it, but the cooking would be last minute. I suppose I could do it myself and tell Jerry I'm just bringing a special something-something for the "poker night".

I love planning parties. :) :)

Current mood: pleased.

7th October, 2009. 11:34 pm. Free Stuff

Jerry and I have been big fans of our local public library. I go and check out books there almost weekly, and we rent movies and all kinds of things. We havent paid for a rental movie in months and months. Its amazing that the library has all the new movies there just hanging out waiting to be checked out. The catch is, you dont always get them right away. You order them, and have to wait to come in if the copy is available at your branch. Which, to us, isnt that big of a deal. We both figure that if it wasn't important enough to go see in the theater than waiting a couple extra weeks isnt going to make that big of a difference. Plus, we get to keep the movie for a couple weeks. Free!
I've also learned that the library has all kinds of CDs that you can check out and import on your computer! for free! and its newer music and current bands! Once again, you might have to wait a bit but lately my wait time has been a week. max. Its pretty awesome, so I'm getting around to putting some new decent music on my ipod. I was getting tired of listening to my same music over and over so whenever I heard a song I liked on the radio or whatever I write it down and then order it from the library when I get home. Then bam! its waiting for me to pick it up and stick it on my computer. I'm alittle too excited about this whole thing, but my tax dollars are paying for the public library which pays for said music and books I enjoy so in a way I am legitimately paying for my music.
Anyway, in the past week I've added 300 new songs for the cost of a minor detour on my walk to and from work. Or, during my lunch walks instead of walking down to the REI building along the river walk I hike over the library drop off/pick up stuff then hike back to the office. Either option gives me the 45 min and 2 miles that I'm going for. yeah, sometimes I walk slow, it gets hot walking 2 miles in work clothes and I dont want to sweat too much for the whole afternoon. I have such inertia when it comes to working out and going to the gym, that walking back and forth to work and then walking during lunch I feel makes up for the lack of drive of going down to the treadmill or swimming in the pool. I mean, added up its about 4 miles a day. Which, I realize isnt that much when you add up that I sit more than I walk over the course of the day but its better than 0 miles a day...
Especially with my new free music to listen to! HA!

Current mood: satisfied.

23rd September, 2009. 7:11 pm. so, so cold

My apartment is the temperature of a walk-in fridge. Almost. 55 degrees. For two days.
I'm hiding out in Jerrys aparment. While he doesnt have his heat turned on, at least his apartment has sufficient insulation. I had looked forward to hanging out in my own place all week while he was gone and its too cold. Let's hope this theme doesnt continue for the whole winter, yeah?

Current mood: cold.

21st September, 2009. 5:21 pm. struck out

Got outbid again. This time, on the closing costs. Seriously? I'm not looking for houses anymore, because I wont get in on the $8k check and no one likes to move during the holidays. Besides, I mostly do like my little apartment. The only thing I dont like is having to walk a couple blocks everytime I'm needing something (back and forth to Jerrys), no parking, or dishwasher.

sigh, the trials and tribulations of my life.

20th September, 2009. 12:05 pm. future building

I put a bid on a two bed, two bath condo downtown on friday. It kind of freaks me out, but exciting all at the same time. And its all mine, Jerry will be living there but only my name on the deed and I have the downpayment all ready. Its pretty awesome knowing all my saving and 2.5 years in the evergreen house are paying off so well. I'll know tomorrow if I get the bid or not, but its still pretty exciting. Jerry and I have been talking about decorating, wood floors, paint and how to re-do the bathrooms and kitchen.

Heres to tomorrow!

Current mood: excited.

7th September, 2009. 2:55 pm. anti-labor weekend!

This weekend has been one giant relax-fest with Jerry. It was really nice, just getting some things done that I havent had time to do and laying around.
I went looking at some more places today with Annie's realtor and he seems like a good fit. He's not pushy or anything and is willing to really try and help me find a place I really want. He said that to get the $8k check I should be under contract by mid-october but that should not be the motivating factor for me to buy a place. yes! I'm not buying to invest, I'm buying to live somewhere. I found two I liked but the location was all wrong. Too far east, by the aurora area. I'm wanting to stay in the downtown section so my commute isnt something long and frustrating.

I am kind of spooked about buying a place together with Jerry. I mean, its a big step to do it by yourself much less committing to something like that with another person. I partly want to find a place that I like and not think about how Jerry fits into it, but at the same time he is a factor and we have talked about moving in together when I find a place. And he keeps talking "we" this and "we" that. And like I've said before, marriage is on the table for the future. Its just a big deal.

I know that somewhere out there is the place for me, what will be roomy enough for both of us and in a good location.

Current mood: good.

5th September, 2009. 7:07 pm. ah delicious drama!

This weekend we've finally dont have anything planned and so I'm laying around watching Tudors and playing online. Whee! We went camping up by Wellington Lake in the Bailey area two weekends ago and went hiking around and climbed on rocks and played in the stream with Tom and Darcy.
Then last week we flew out to Iowa to be reunited with my fabulous and always wonderful TS Cara. We hung out with her friday night and drove down to Iowa saturday morning to check into our hotel and get ready. We chatted and caught up on everything. I'm so terrible with keeping in touch with everyone and I need to work on that. She caught me up on everything thats happend that I didnt know about and all the juciy tidbits. Ah, college reunions. Good times.
Everyone looked so lovely at the wedding, especially Roxy. I loved her dress, she looked so beautiful and grown up in her gown. It was weird cold weather for the outdoor ceremony but very sweet and short. We couldnt hear them very well, since no one used microphones but the guitar player was really good and I liked the selection of songs he had.
Then it was off to Taco John's with Jerry, Cara and I before heading to the reception. It stated on the card that the reception was not dinner and to have something to eat before coming. Jordon seemed put out that we were getting tacos since the reception was being catered by Pancheros but Taco Johns is much different than that. Plus, there is no Taco John in chicago OR Colorado.
the reception was in this cute hall right on a lakeshore, and the decorations were simple and very tasteful. Although it was funny watching Nicole taking them down, she looked so angry at the end of the night. I hope she wasnt too stressed, the whole evening was so smooth and simple neither Cara nor I could figure out what there was to stress out to begin with. Cara and I danced and had a "celebrity" moment when at one point we were one of the few people on the dance floor and the photographers were snapping shots like crazy. ah, good times. Roxy and I had a dance together for "our song" Come On Eileen which was so special. :)
Post-reception, our trio wasnt ready to call it a night so we stopped and picked up chips and mango margerita mix and headed back to the hotel to snack and drink out of our little plastic hotel cups. Jerry fetched ice and set up Dogma on the laptop while Cara and I changed out of our dresses and into PJs for the night. We curled up and laughed and chatted about the whole evening and our take on what happened.
We drove back to chicago the next day and Cara took us out to see all the sights and ride the train all over the city. We ate real Chicago Pizza, which was I admit abit intimidating. :) Then we rode the bus to the Harrison tower were we ordered drinks and took pictures of the view of the top of the city. Cara pointed out where she works and basically just took us all over the place. We called it an early night and went back to her place and played scrabble while watching HGTV Home Design Star, which was pretty funny to watch. Oh, tv drama. Cara had to work the next day, but our flight wasnt until the afternoon so Jerry and I drove around the city and checked out the Navy Pier. We walked all over and ate funnel cake and bought roasted nuts (my weakness) for the plane ride. After walking all over and getting mobbed by the birds who also wanted to taste our funnel cake we called it a day and headed back to the airport.
Whew, and now another 3-day weekend. Today we just hung out and cleaned the apartment. Its amazing how dirty a place can get when you are rarely home. Tomorrow Jerry and I are going to the Rockies game and Monday we're looking at a couple houses and then heading to Taste of Colorado.
A nice relaxing weekend to start the fall, and for work to gear back up. The whole government basically takes a holiday during August since DC is out of session along with the Supreme Court. And most judges take their holidays during this time, so now that everyone is back home I should be getting more judgments across my desk and files to go through. Ah, good times. I like being busy and work is going really well. I've been there now 4 months and my boss told me she's really pleased what good work I'm doing and how many cases I've managed to bring closer to resolution. hurrah!

Current mood: calm.
